Amp Dimed - Volume Control Test 1 by Particle

1:35 minutes (1.46 MB)

This is the first time checking out the amp. The first test was to see the amp's sensitivity and how well it responded to the guitar's volume control. All gain changes were made from the guitar's volume control.

Amp settings: EQ was set flat (12 o'clock), Volume and Presence were dimed (all the way up).
Speaker: Vintage 30 in a single 12" Mesa Boogie cabinet.
Mic: MXL R-40 Ribbon

This is a comparison of four RFD pedals. All with different clipping diode configurations. Can you hear a difference?

This was just a down and dirty recording using the built-in mic on my iMac into Logic Pro. Fast and easy.

This is a clip of a Seagull A-6 made by Godin that I bought about a year ago. Nice sounding solid body acoustic electric. Basically straight into garage band with a touch of chorus.

This is a wonderful illustration of how a fun circuit cannot improve playing ability. Champ 5F1, Wizard closed back, Parker Fly Deluxe w/DiMarzios humbuckers or tapped. Played at a ridiculously low volume level in the hopes of not overloading the iPhone. Didn't really work, but hey- it's something.

Chords to a Spiderbait song BBD bypassed then on without boost. Followed by quick lead bypassed, then on without boost, then with boost. BBD settings - bright switch on (Gain becomes bass control), Gain 6, Tone 5.5, Level 4. TTW Mood

Thrify Wreck. This is an attempt at using some volume/sustain swells. It didn't come off as well as I would've liked. Back to the Ibanez RG1620X. Volume control at the sweet spot around 6, all others 5, bright switch off. Then it's a resistive L-Pad attenuator, 2x12 closed back cab, vocal mic, Mackie Onyx 1220 mixer, Cubase with no effects or EQ.

TTW Chords

1:14 minutes (1.42 MB)

Thrifty Wreck clean to mean demo with some simple chords, all guitar volume knob controlled. Clean at the start has some hair, I didn't get it quite right. But the later clean bits are better. The mixer VU meter bounces around the same value clean bits and mean bits. Ibanez RG1620X. Volume control at the sweet spot around 6, all others 5, bright switch off.

Thrifty Croaker Harp Demo

1:26 minutes (1.65 MB)

Haven't been playing long so excuse the stuffups! Thrifty Croaker with standard 5F1 Champ circuit but grid stopper resistors added. No tone control or treble cut. A tweed tone would allow the volume to be nudged up a bit more, but it's getting a nice distortion without that. VVR up full for recording, volume on 2 and Celestion Super 8 small combo cab.
